Step by step instructions to install NodeJS on Windows

Update 04/26/2011: I was able to successfully install the latest NodeJS version (v0.4.7) so, I am updating the instructions to reflect that.

I just had NodeJS successfully installed on Windows XP using Cygwin and thought this might be of use to someone who wants to do the same.

Pre-requisites: Cygwin with Python & some additional packages (we’ll go over that in a bit)

    1. Double click Cygwin’s setup.exe and continue till you get to select packages window
    2. Select Python

    1. Select Make

    1. Select G++

    1. Select wget(not really required but, good to have for downloading archives & stuffs :) )

  1. Click next and complete the installation
  2. From cygwin type the following commands. Note: At the time of this writing v0.2.0 is the current NodeJS version.
    2 tar xvf node-v0.4.7.tar.gz
    3 cd node-v0.4.7/
    4 ./configure
    5 make
    6 make install
  3. If all goes well, then you should see NodeJS’s version when you type the following command.
    1 node --version
    2 v0.4.7

Update:

For Windows 7 & Windows Vista users, please run rebaseall with -v option as suggested in this comment.
